Ford will auction off last Mustang in Charity auction
August 8, 2014
Last of the 50 Year Limited Edition cars to be sold for charity
Ford will build a limited run of 50 Year Limited Edition Mustangs to commemorate the model’s launch at the New York World’s Fair in 1964, and the very last car out of that series will cross the block at Barrett-Jackson next month. The car offered at auction will be car No. 1,964, as that’s the last car of this special run.
Ford took the wraps off the 50 Year Limited Edition at the New York auto show back in April, with the 2015 Mustang set to go on sale this fall. The 50 Year Limited Edition will be based on the 2015 Mustang GT fastback and will only be available in two colors: Kona blue and Wimbledon white. The engine will, of course, be a 5.0-liter V8 making 435 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque, and since it’ll be based on the Mustang GT performance pack that means it’ll feature 19-inch wheels wrapped in Y-speed-rated Pirelli P Zero summer tires and Brembo brakes. The 50 Year Limited Edition will be the only 2015 model that’ll combine the performance pack with an automatic transmission; on standard versions of the Mustang, buyers will be able to couple the performance package with a manual.
“While some collectors will undoubtedly stash this car away in a museum, those who choose to hit the open road will get a world-class sports car that can run with the best,” said Dave Pericak, Mustang chief engineer at the time of the 50 Year Anniversary Edition’s launch in April.
This particular 50 Year Anniversary Mustang will feature the pace-car package; it’ll be the only one of the 1,964 anniversary Mustangs to have this. Mustang No. 1,964 will also feature the signature of Ford Motor Co. Executive Chairman Bill Ford and other Ford executives.
This special Mustang will be first revealed to the public at the Get Your Heart Racing Pit Party sponsored by Crest Automotive Group on Sept. 12 at Eastern Market in Detroit. The winning bidder at the Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas auction will also receive a VIP package to the Ford EcoBoost 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup event at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Nov. 16, when the car will pace the championship race. For the winning bidder, that will include airfare, hotel accommodations and two VIP tickets to the track, where a Ford NASCAR driver will do hot laps in the car prior to the race.
All proceeds from the sale of this example will go to Get Your Heart Racing, a fundraising event supporting Edith and Benson Ford Heart & Vascular Institute.
