Range Rover Unveals Sentinel

September 14, 2015

Land Rover has unveiled its first armoured Range Rover to be fully engineered by its Special Vehicle Operations division – the Range Rover Sentinel.

The Sentinel is based on the Range Rover Autobiography, and combines VR8-level ballistic and blast resistance with off-road capabilities and “uncompromised levels of luxury”.

The vehicles can withstand 7.62mm high velocity, armour piercing incendiary bullets; 15kg TNT blasts; and DM51 grenade explosions from both beneath the floor and above the roof.

“At its core is a specially-developed six-piece armoured passenger cell, made of super-high-strength steel, providing world-class protection from attack,” said Land Rover.

“The standard glass has been replaced by multi-laminated armour privacy glass, providing excellent clarity for the driver and occupants, while also delivering bullet protection.”

The Autobiography features a V8 supercharged engine – which the Sentinel’s power unit is based on – producing 625Nm of torque and 375kW.

Suspension and brakes in the Sentinel have been upgraded to deal with the extra weight of the armour plating.

The vehicle is “primarily aimed at export markets” and built to special order. Prices, excluding taxes, start at €400,000
